LOST BALLOONS

Fri. Aug. 25 - 9:00 pm - 21+ - BUY TICKETS HERE!
LOST BALLOONS (members of of Marked Men, Radioactivity, Blotto, and Suspicious Beasts) - listen
Texas and Japan team up for a trans-Pacific, 2 man summertime pop explosion! Lost Balloons are Jeff Burke (Radioactivity, Marked Men, etc etc) and Yusuke Okada (of Japan’s incredible Suspicious Beasts). Hey Summer is their 2nd album, following 2015’s self-titled debut on German’s Alien Snatch Records. (one of the few Marked Men-related records of recent years that Dirtnap DIDN’T put out!) The 2 play all the instruments (although there is a live lineup as well) and split singing/songwriting duties. Hey Summer works fantastically well as an ALBUM, meant to be listened to from start-to-finish.
Wistful, sunshiney 60’s-inspired pop with a bit of 80’s college rock jangle and even a little modern garage/Americana twang, Hey Summer represents a pretty big departure from a normal Jeff Burke project. (and although it’s sonically a LITTLE closer to Okada’s Suspicious Beasts, it veers farther afield of his normal songwriting comfort zone as well) Jeff says that this album is probably the least “punk” record he’s ever done. We would agree, but don’t think that that is a bad thing. Rather it confirms what we’ve long suspected: That these two can master any genre that they tackle, and make it fully their own.
PRIMITIVE TEETH (members of Violent End, Split Feet, Daylight Robbery, Chronic Seizure) - listen
Primitive Teeth consists of Keara on drums and backing vocals, Christine on guitar and vocals, and Bryan on bass and backing vocals.
BULLNETTLE

LUCKILY I'M THE HUNTER - listen
Two childhood friends, a guitar, and drums. The ingredients that created Luckily I'm The Hunter, after years of high-fives, fueled a mix of post-rock and math-rock influences. DADDY & OTHER DADDY

Sat. Sep. 09 - 9:00 pm - 21+ - BUY TICKETS HERE!
DADDY & OTHER DADDY - listen
Daddy and Other Daddy is a two-piece band from Chicago. They play kind of, sort of twitchy, nervy indie rock. That’s a little reductive though. Members Mark Driscoll and Patrick Gunderson are multi-instrumentalists (guitar, bass, piccolo bass, clarinet, keys, drums, melodica, ukulele, vocals, on and on) and listening to them is a lot like digging through the record collection of a friend with really good taste in music. The kind where ‘80’s synth pop sits right next to really loud math rock, and those records are good friends with pirate shanties and lullabies and Eastern European folk music.
PONDS & FLESHMAN - listen
Chicago based Ponds and Fleshman have been mining their sound for several years but have only recently surfaced for live shows. The band was formed by J. davis trio band mates David Winer and Ryan Murphy with the recent addition of Rick Gehrenbeck on keyboards (Poi Dog Pondering.) Their debut EP “Better Days EP” received great reviews. CMJ described their sound as “a combination of 80’s power pop beats with New Wave swagger……. It’s a good old fashioned pseudo American time.“
DOMESTIC MEN
In between mowing the lawn and grilling arrachera lie the Domestic Men. A trio of geezers who still enjoy playing their blend of pop, indie, country, punk, math, and good old fashioned rock and roll. Their sound is a mish mash of Guided By Voices, Drive By Truckers, Modest Mouse and just a touch of Rush. Sometimes they get busy. Sometimes they get drunk. On Tuesdays you can usually find them banging away on their instruments in the basement. Luckily, the wife doesn't seem to mind.

NONAGON

Thu. Sep. 21 - 9:00 pm - 21+ - BUY TICKETS HERE!
NONAGON (ex mbr of the Blue Meanies) - listen
Nonagon is a three-piece punk rock band that was formed in the early aughts and practices in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago. The band is comprised mostly of Tony Aimone (who used to be in The Blue Meanies, Taylor, and The J. Davis Trio), Robert Gomez (who was in der lugomen and is one-oneth of Martian Law), and John Hastie (who used to be in Jumpknuckle). They play loud and abrasive rock with varying time signatures and screamy vocals, and while they love to play shows they still have no idea how to dress for them.
KNIFE THE SYMPHONY - listen
Knife The Symphony has consistently released energetic, abrasive, rhythmic-work garnering comparisons to Hüsker Dü, Drive Like Jehu, Jawbox, and Unwound. The band owes a considerable debt to Dischord, SST and Touch & Go. Bring your earplugs.
WORK - listen
WORK is a three-piece rock and roll band from Milwaukee Wisconsin. Our music ranges from big punk to slow ass murder ballads to things that sometimes resemble old popular songs.
HUNGRY MAN - listen
When thinking of a band like "Hungry Man" the word "audacity" comes to mind; from their debut performance at this years PRF Thundersnow, the quartet of Jeff Fox, Eliya Gwetta, Jim Kamp, and Andy Kosinski performed six out of seven originally composed songs, and tacked on a cover for good measure. Now, that sounds like some no frills business, but the songs these men put forth were incredibly muscular, well honed salvos of rock and roll aggression. There was not a single clumsy misstep, unlike every other band that has had a debut performance. These jerks had the audacity to play every single song like we all had the record, like we all knew what was coming and like they had worked on them for years. This is the sound of a full figured band--enough space for everyone to breath and step into the light. Loud, taut, aggressive without beating you over the head with it. Instead of punching you in the teeth without thought, they've been eyeing you all night. They know what you've been doing wrong and they body you into the corner until you cool down and think about what you did. Are you good? Okay, you gonna walk out of here calmly now? Okay. This band man...bunch of audacious jerks, with their already realized ideas of how to be a seriously unique rock band. Thank god they didn't give the drummer a microphone.

LITTLE YELLOW DOG

Fri. Sep. 22 - 9:00 pm - 21+ - BUY TICKETS HERE!
LITTLE YELLOW DOG - listen
Little Yellow Dog wants to see you cry while dancing uncontrollably. We want you to tell your ex to get bent and love yourself for who you are. We're sad so you can be happy. We're angry so you can be beautiful. We are based on the premise of living vicariously through others. We want to teach everyone who sees us how to be happy through all the strange moments we've all been through. Musically, we have a punky, folky, rocking kind of sound. Everyone has a good time. Yeah!
THE JUST LUCKIES - listen
The Just Luckies are a band comprised of musical influences from Alabama, Chicago, Indiana, and Ohio. Having new members since their last release the band has evolved from their folk-rock sound to a more genre bending style that they've been calling twang-punk. Twang-punk embodies their influences like, rock'n'roll, blues, country, americana, but most importantly it represents the spirit of the music. From their super heroine-esque name, to their sharp critique-like lyrics, all the girls intend shake and liberate their listeners. As the lead guitarist once said "being a band of mostly queer women, we are spoiled." The Just Luckies create a safe respectful space for all, but stretch out a hand to those who've ever felt they don't belong.

THE BURST AND BLOOM

Sat. Sep. 23 - 9:00 pm - 21+ - BUY TICKETS HERE!
THE BURST AND BLOOM - listen
The Burst and Bloom, is a 3 piece rock band native to the City of Chicago. The best way to describe them is three life long friends that lock themselves in a room and turn a hard day, several beers, and a bottle of bourbon into a song. They are all ex-members of another defunct band The New Diet. Musical influences span from bands like Brand New, Modest Mouse, Death Cab For Cutie, Weezer, American Football, and Margot and the Nuclear So and So’s to other influences from artist like Chance the Rapper, Kendrick Lamar, and Jay Electronica. The music definitely has a familiar feeling to it with undertones that definitely set them a part from other bands. Putting a lot of emphasis on guitar, bass, and drum tones is matched by the lyrical content and the need to make music that they would want to listen to. Currently TBAB is playing whenever they can to get their new music out there. They made their debut show in the spring of 2016 co-headlining the House of Blues. Currently, they are recording more music after releasing 3 songs collectively called Bricktop Demos recorded at Bricktop Studios with Pete Grossman.
