THE TREASURE FLEET

Sat. Aug. 23 - 8:00 pm - 18+ - BUY TICKETS HERE!
THE TREASURE FLEET (members of Arrivals, The Lawrence Arms, Sass Dragons, Smoking Popes) - listen
In summer 2007, just on the heels of recording “Marvels of Industry” with his band the Arrivals, Isaac Thotz went on a month long binge of drink and drugs and 1960’s psychedelic rock that ended with a self-recorded twelve song demo of acoustic psychedelic pop songs, a collection sounding like Syd Barrett outtakes. At the end of the month, the Arrivals went on tour with Underground Railroad to Candyland, where Isaac showed his recordings to Todd Congelliere (of URTC and owner of Recess Records) and by the end of that week, on a rooftop party at a tenement in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, they’d resolved to start their new mod-psych band. Isaac joined a project Todd C. had been doing with the members of the Dios Malos in L.A., under the name Bible Children. They did a handful of shows around L.A. and Chicago, recorded a demo, and broke up in 2009 under the stress of long distance. In summer 2010, Thotz restarted the effort with friends and local Chicago musicians Neil Hennessy (of the Lawrence Arms) on bass, Dave Merriman (of the Arrivals) on keys, Mike Oberlin (of Sass Dragons) on drums, and Eli Caterer (of Smoking Popes) on lead guitar. Now called Treasure Fleet, this new psych sound is punk’s weird, dirty, drugged-out answer the folk-punk that’s dominated the scene for the last decade.
LENGUAS LARGAS
A bunch of dirty DIY dudes playing stony, pleasant, intricate music that builds tension then releases. It’s subtle, yet pleasant; thick, swirling, and as fingering as white smoke exhaled deeply from a pipe. I don’t mind weird if it rocks. I don’t mind psychrock if the “rock” part’s not just a handy post-it note whacked onto the side of masturbation. Lenguas Largas has the Roky Erickson Weird-O-Meter pegged. They’re also carrying a mile-long locomotion’s worth of quarry-grade rock, freshly blasted from the earth. - T.Taylor, Razorcake
WHITE NIGHT - listen
White Night sound like all the punk bands you've half listened to in crowded basements and bullshit bowling alleys while trying to sneak beer in and make out with people. And as good as beer and making out are, you should have been paying more attention. Here's you're second chance.
TWO HOUSES - listen
Remember the ’90s, when Nickelodeon was mostly awesome and Jim Carrey was god among men? So do we. Remember middle school, when you started listening to punk rock and you still had braces and that one pair of JNCO shorts? So do we. Remember high school, when you started a band that didn’t really get anywhere, but even now you still kind of think it had potential? So do we. Remember last night? Neither do we. Two Houses.

THE BAD DOCTORS

Tue. Aug. 26 - 8:00 pm - 18+ - BUY TICKETS HERE!
THE BAD DOCTORS - listen
The Bad Doctors have been active in the Philly music scene for about a year now. Its members are Brian Bullock, Luke Nally, and Matt McDermott. The band formed with the concept of creating serious and interesting rock and roll, in an attempt to fill the expanding void in Philadelphia's rock community. They formed a tight fan-base by playing house parties and basement shows relentlessly.
STARING PROBLEM - listen
Out of the near-impenetrable darkness of Carbondale, IL, emerges Staring Problem, a pretty good band. While their ideal aesthetic is one of unrelenting goth-as-fuck punishment, their "pop sensibility," shaky grasp of the fundamentals of their instruments, general good humor, and love of beer prevent them from ever being fully subsumed by the darkness.
BOILERMAN - listen
Boilerman is solid do-it-yourself pop-punk from Chicago. Get into it!
WARRIOR TRIBES - listen
New Chicago three-piece hardcore punk band, formed January 2012. Influences include Wipers, Wire, and reverb.

GERONIMO! - listen
We are a three piece rock band from the fine city of Chicago. One time we watched an episode of 'Walker Texas Ranger' and a guy said, "Shut up because I'm doing something." Another time we were supposed to play a house where a circus lived, but we played a party across the street instead (after we watched a blind man grope a potato).

In recent years the band has collaborated with other members of the hardcore punk and powerviolence scene, including Hatred Surge and Dave Bailey, formerly of Running For Cover. 2009 saw the release of Public Humiliation, a three-way collaboration between Iron Lung and Kortland and Ward's side projects, Pig Heart Transplant and Walls respectively. The recording is of a one-off live performance from Halloween of 2008. Jon Kortland is also half of the art project Feeding, which has made artwork for several Iron Lung, Walls and PHT releases, as well as album covers for several other bands.

"Violent End is the current darling of the Chicago punk scene: current or ex-members of Raw Nerve, Manipulation, Chronic Seizure, Vile Gash, et. al. If you know anything about those bands you can expect a similar dose of barebones, no-frills hardcore. Angry Andy from Vile Gash delivers his trademark snarl, barking out words of hate (I can't make 'em out but I'm sure the words are as violent as the music). I don't need to say any more; if you like raw American hardcore, you'll like this." - Wizago, Drug Punk
SEA OF SHIT - listen
Grinding power violence from Chicago.
RUMORES

THE SASS DRAGONS

Fri. Aug. 29 - 8:00 pm - 18+ - BUY TICKETS HERE!
THE SASS DRAGONS - listen
"We are a three dude rock group. Some of the things we like are people getting kicked in the nards, drinking beer, doing drugs, running around with slinkies on our wieners, and we laugh especially hard when people bonk their heads on things. Oh, and also when people slip on banana peels we might pee our pants laughing so much. Remember the part in ROBOCOP when Kurtwood Smith sez "Can you fly Bobby?"
THE PUNK BAND CURRENTLY KNOWN AS PRINCE - listen
PRINCE is a band from Austin, Texas. PRINCE is here to make love to your ears and get to bed before 10pm.
BRICKFIGHT - listen
This band consists of four grown-ass men that still think playing guitars and drums and singing and dancing in front of other people is "acceptable." The band started in a bar called The Black Dog Tavern in Fort Worth Texas and it will probably end in the same bar. The conversation of joining forces to make music occurred over a drink special known as the Claude Simpson and will probably end over said drink special.
COSTANZA - listen
If you take everything Costanza has accomplished in their musical careers and condense it down to one day, it looks decent! Costanza battled shrinkage, George Steinbrenner, and the death of their fiancé Susan, to record a demo in the spring of 2010. After some lineup changes, a brief spat with the Van Buren Boys, and driving many women to become lesbians, Costanza is back with new music including their “Shitty Fucking Choices” EP, and a split 7 inch with NY punkers Warm Needles. Come out and see them or they’ll be forced to go back to work at that shithole Kruger Industrial Smoothing.

EGGS

Sat. Aug. 30 - 7:00 pm - All ages - BUY TICKETS HERE!
EGGS - listen
Eggs is a band of Jeffs. Jeff G. on vocals and guitar, Jeff B. on vocals and bass, Jeff A. on drums.
EIFFEL TOWER - listen
The Chicagoland trio of Alex, Matt, and Pete named their band Eiffel Tower, after the French monument. Upon its completion, the tower had widely been considered as a mistake and an eyesore. Guy de Maupassant, who reportedly hated the tower, was known to have lunched in it daily. When asked why, he remarked that it was the only place in all of Paris where he could not see the awful structure. The band Eiffel Tower celebrates the grandiose courage necessary to pursue seemingly foolhardy ambitions.
PAPERHAUS
Paperhaus started in a basement in the suburbs of Washington, DC, where guitarists Alex Tebeleff and Eduardo Rivera spent their teenage years, sapping melodic hooks out of heavy, post-punk influenced progressions for DC's emerging indie scene. Miles away in Philadelphia, the dissonant vibrato of drummer Brandon Moses’ voice howled over distorted blues, while bassist John Di Lascio’s three drunken ...years of blasting absurdist prog-pop in shady Japanese yakuza bars were winding down. When the haze cleared, these four musicians found themselves in the big room of the red door studio, screaming raw vocal poetry into rickety old mics and bleeding cosmic noise through rusty tube amps. Teetering melodic jams edged into CAN or Television, while haunting noisescapes, echoes of Radiohead and Sonic Youth, channeled themselves through simpler, Country-Blues & Pop-oriented arrangements and deeply personal lyrics.
BREADWIVES - listen
Breadwives are a rock band with punk leanings/aspirations. There are two guitars and a drum involved. There will be growly singing and a tasteful amount of yelling.

Featuring ex/current members of The Ghostrunner Assembly, The Armor Class, The Leslie Sisson Band, Lovers, Merle The Mule, Dark Watch, and many others, their music recalls Sabbath, Kyuss, and early 90's Melvins with a Radiohead pop sensibility. They also pair surprisingly well with straight bourbon whiskey and session ales. Sipping metal.

SHAHMAN - listen
Guitar/vocals & drums duo. Originally from North Bay, Ontario, Canada (currently making their home in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada). The best aspects of early-90s math/post-rock without sounding at all derivative.

ABLE BAKER FOX

Fri. Sep. 05 - 8:00 pm - 18+ - BUY TICKETS HERE!
ABLE BAKER FOX (members of Small Brown Bike and Casket Lottery)
It all started with a phone call from Missouri to Michigan. Baseball was the original subject, but as always, it quickly turned to music. The friendship was forged years ago between Mike Reed and Nathan Ellis when their bands, Small Brown Bike and The Casket Lottery, toured together. But this was today and the two decided to start from scratch. The idea was shared with Mike's former band mates, his brother Ben Reed and drummer Jeff Gensterblum. From there, Able Baker Fox was born. Their debut album "Voices" was recorded in 4 days and released in 2007. Fast forward to today -- Able Baker Fox is alive and well -- playing shows and working on LP2.
RARE ANIMALS
Reverb, Delay, Distortion, Mayhem... musical thoughts created by Bryce Martin of Die Princess Die, Memory and John Rejba of Boys Life, The Farewell Bend
STILL MACHINE
Firm in their convictions, Still Machine draw on influences from Low, Joy Division, early Killing Joke and the like to spin a moody web of harmonic counterpoint and poly-rhythm intense enough to raise hairs, yet bewitching enough to sway. In keeping with Chicago's unspoken rules of incestuous musical projects, this unlikely post punk/ indie rock conglomeration comes correct from the hands of vocalist/guitarist Ray Dybzinski (orig. Timeout Drawer, Sounding Spirals), bassist Jason Goldberg (orig. Timeout Drawer, Beak, Svlphvrvs), drummer Mike Rataj (arbogast, Cask), and pedal steel marvel Thomas McGettrick (The Harrow, Mar Caribe).
QUIET CAR - listen

“Don’t Be a Dick!” Words of wisdom from the mouth of new teenage pop punk band Emily’s Army. Influenced by the rich East Bay music scene, Gilman Street, classic power pop, and garage rock, Emily’s Army craft heartfelt teenage anthems dealing in cautionary tales, politics, and the pressures of adolescence.
DESERT SHARKS - listen
Desert Sharks are a NYC based quartet of ladies who are sure to be your favorite band to have at your house show. Under the name Recordings, the tough as shit lasses have collected four straight up attitude-driven rock’n’roll. Other reviews seem to love comparing them the Runaways and they do lean towards the Joan Jett school of thought. But listen closer and you will see they have the rocking chops à la Sleater-Kinney (with The Woods specifically in mind) mixed with the ‘get the fuck outta my way’ swagger of the Pandoras and Coathangers.
LIPSTICK HOMICIDE - listen
Lipstick Homicide (Kate Kane, Rachel Feldman and Lucas Ferguson) have been making a big noise in Iowa City for six years or so, starting out at West High School. If you haven’t seen them play live, then you don’t get out much–and you’ve missed out. Their live sound is an exquisitely textured roar made up of Kate Kane’s slashing guitar, Rachel’s driving bass and Lucas’ frenetic drumming.

First new record since 2007. This will be their third show this year. Here are the scene sweethearts endearing themselves to the ABC NO RIO crowd earlier this year.

TIJUANA HERCULES - listen
Tijuana Hercules are a positively unhinged rock band, a deep impact, off-the-rails bullseye, that sound moments away from shearing off into shrapnel under the ramshackle hedonism of every song. Singer and guitarist John Vernon Forbes performs with a revolving gypsy band of drummers, horn players, keyboard players, percussionists, and assorted other noisemakers. The band's primary emphasis is pounding out bare-bones blues rattles that make it easy to understand why holy rollers viscerally understood rock and roll's threat to God. With a band like Tijuana Hercules, the phrase "stolen thunder" takes on an entirely new meaning.

Although their tunes are analytical curiosities, they’re no arm-chair affair: Electro Mehteran invokes a brassy fire that sets dance-floors aflame with a passion for math and speaking in tongues. Somewhere between daft and deft, this Chicagoan sextet assaults genre boundaries and pushes listeners to ponder.

Formed in late -2013 by members of Fake Limbs (Bryan Gleason), Police Teeth (Chris Rasmussen), and Korean Jeans (Neal Markowski), Chicago's Burn Permits is a stripped down three-piece rock band. TEXAS CHAINSTORE MANAGER
3 piece heavy semi-technical ever grunge.

Mark Rose is a twenty-nine year old singer/songwriter from Chicago. Former front man of the band Spitalfield (1998-2007), & lifetime ALF enthusiast-- Mark writes his own blend of R&B infused rock and pop that leaves you somewhere between 1983 & the present. Mark studied music composition at Columbia College in Chicago for two years before signing a recording contract with Spitalfield in 2003 to Victory Records. The group disbanded at the end of 2007, but not before releasing three full-length albums, selling over 130,000 copies worldwide, and taking their music to the stage in nine countries on three continents. As one chapter ends a new chapter begins for the young musician. Rose released "Wonderful Trouble", his first full length solo effort, in the Summer of 2011. CREEPY BAND - listen
Creepy Band was born on the Devils night. Five souls came together to play a single show October 30, 2010, and play they did. The combination of the guitar, bass, drums, church organ, and screaming vocals wove together in a dissonant harmony, loud yet maintaining a subtle eeriness not to be forgotten. They quickly realized that the horror must be continued and are now doomed to haunt Chicago venues forever with their distinct new genre of Creepy Rock 'n' Roll...

Two Houses.
THE JUKEBOX ROMANTICS - listen
"The Jukebox Romantics are 4 certifiable and usually belligerent punk rockers from southern NY. Since releasing their debut album on Altercation Records in 2009, the Jukebox Romantics have taken their talked-about live show from coast to coast including dates during Austins SXSW 2010/2011 festivals and the Warped Tour and Gainesville's The Fest 9 in late 2010. With a genre hopping approach to their sound, the Jukebox Romantics channel their influences of bands like The Clash, Bouncing Souls, and One Man Army through personal song writing and their ability and eagerness to be absorbed by their audiences. 2011 saw the release of their sophomoric album, "A Lion and A Guy," as well as a fury of touring. The JBR's self-released a limited 300 copy pressed EP "Hollywood is Dead" in late 2012 and then later for digital download on Death to False Hope Records. More nomadic adventures ensued in 2013 as well as recording for their 3rd full length album. "Plot Points" was recorded in the late summer of 2013. Produced by Pete Steinkopf of The Bouncing Souls, JBRs plan on releasing "Plot Points" in late 2014. Come hang out, have some fun, and make some new friends at a Jukebox Romantics show!"

TWINSMITH - listen
Twinsmith calls it surfer pop. It’s breezy, electric and light — the kind of music you would hear from a 1960s Beetle convertible on Santa Monica Boulevard. For Twinsmith, an up-and-coming band from Omaha, NE, finding this niche sound has been its key to success. Four dudes and chill sounds perfect the Twinsmith aesthetic. The Midwestern group has been making music together for a year with inspirations ranging from the high energy of the New York scene to the beachy landscape of the West Coast.

COLD COUNTRY - listen
From humble roots and months spent tucked away in his room, Sean McConnell finally unveils his craft. After a brief spell of living in the South, the songwriter returned to Chicago hell-bent on developing his project. Through a network of friends and kind strangers, McConnell built an eclectic mixture of sounds. Via a few performances playing lead guitar in the Chicago based outfit Paleo, McConnell fell in love with the idea of a large band which is very apparent on his debut tracks. With honest lyrics and simple progressions he reminds us that genuine music still exists. His ability to honestly detail the world he experiences is a friendly reminder that despite the band name, the world isn't such a cold place.
DASTARDLY - listen
The marriage between old west folk and the ambiguous genre of “indie rock” makes the songs of Dastardly a palatable playlist for those who aren’t normally attracted to cowboy crooners. In fact, by the sound of the screaming girls heard at Subterranean, we’re pretty sure the band was responsible for converting quite a few pop princesses into banjo loving broads. Experimental enough to feel fresh but traditional enough to feel familiar even to first timers, Dastardly is band that asserted itself as notable early in the game and now can enjoy the steady rise to local fame they’re guaranteed. ---reviewsic.com
BARBER GREENE - listen
The music of Barber Greene is photographic. Originally from the rural DeKalb, IL—where he helped form Light Pollution (Carpark)—the Chicago transplant’s songs are vulnerable and personal. Left untreated, they wouldn’t sound out of place next to early Sufjan Stevens, but the quiet, contemplative songs quickly become massive and triumphant once filled with his imaginative arrangements, the way a memory imbues new meaning on the faded faces of old photographs. Like exhuming dusty shoeboxes of developed disposable cameras, listening to Barber Greene allows us to linger, to daydream about the things you’ve had, the things you want, the things you will never attain.
NATALIE GRACE ALFORD - listen
Natalie Grace Alford is a gritty R&B singer based out of Chicago, IL.

They are currently writing for full length record due out in 2014 and can be found playing the occasional show in the upper midwest. There are plans to tour the U.S. and Europe again this coming year.

It’s apparent that the boys in DR. MANHATTAN truly enjoy each other and their music, because the end result is magnificent. Their sound is an alternative/punk, and self-proclaimed Japanese Classic music with very energetic keyboard playing that creates an interesting and appealing sound. Their live shows are outstanding events; the band seems to be just having fun on stage and that really translates for the audiences enjoyment of the performance.

Embracing conventions of early garage rock and dream pop, Pool Holograph give way to bass-driven instrumentation laced with floral harmonics and cascading choruses.
SPACEFACE - listen
It has long been a dream to find the perfect path, a means to achieve simple happiness, contentment, and inner peace. These are qualities that strangely elude us all. But it doesn't have to be that way.
We at Spaceface have discovered that path.
GOLD FIRES - listen
A group of five rambunctious friends who grew up in the outskirts of Chicago. Gold Fires's members Siul, Edgar, Josh, Mark, and Jose were united last year in late 2012, drawn together by their similar tastes in music and their differences in style. Rocking local venues throughout Chicago, this mischievous quintet has come a long way in such a short amount of time. With their first EP scheduled to be released later this year they are ready to develop and reach greater hights. The sound of G.F. is reminiscent of bands such as The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys. The drums producing a hip hop blue print, the dynamic voice of the front man projecting the influences of jazz crooning mixed in with a hint of raspy post punk. The two guitars courting one another conceiving a constantly evolving sound and finally, with the melodious sound of the bass tying everything together making the Gold Fires an act that deserves to be heard.
CODY COPELAND - listen
Cody Copeland's Alt-Pop originals employ a wide span of instruments ranging from thick slabs of vintage synthesizers, to both analog and electronic drums, glockenspiel, acoustic guitar, and occasionally accordion, all of which he plays, records, and produces himself. These textural elements back a bright smoky vocal delivery, which Copeland says is influenced by a childhood favorite crooner, Roy Orbison.
In 2009, he released his first album of self-written and recorded songs, titled Luster. Then, in 2011, after moving from his hometown of Freeport, FL to Chicago, IL, he released "Happenings," heavily laced with glittery synthesizers, dance drums, and new-wave pop sensibilities. Released most recently, after his return to Florida, "Two States" is the product of living in two polar opposite places during the writing and production of one album. Take the liveliness of the streets of Chicago, add the desolation of the dunes on the Gulf of Mexico, find yourself traveling back and forth, and you have the rhythm behind "Two States". His songwriting takes you from new love to old, betrayal to forgiveness, hometown to downtown and everywhere in between, all with a softness that comforts you from your worst days to your best.

THE SKY WE SCRAPE - listen
This Chicago outfit, The Sky We Scrape, plays a hybrid style of hardcore and heavy punk rock. The band’s raw emotion is offset by interesting song structures and instrumentation. TSWS display inventive songwriting and pay real attention to the soundscapes they create, pounding out 3 minute heavy novellas on the concrete walls of blue collar Chicago.
TENS - listen
Amid the apartments, taquerias, and small music venues in the awkwardly warm blanket of the northwest part of the city, three dudes came together to turn lightning into fire. We also play in these bands: Two Houses, Costanza, Rapids.
PEARS - listen
PEARS is a punk band from New Orleans, LA. Zach Quinn yells a lot and gets tired. Brian Pretus plays the guitar and sings a little. Alex Talbot plays the bass and yells a little. Tim Harman plays the Tim Harman real Tim Harman. They enjoy spending their time worrying about stuff, getting stressed out, making things inconvenient, spilling things, broken equipment, fast songs, aggravating their booking agent, getting nervous, having panic attacks, and jokes. The things they enjoy are beautifully demonstrated when they play music together.
DOG & WOLF
Captivating. Original. Sober. None of these are words to describe Chicago punk trio Dog & Wolf.
WRINGER - listen
Wringer is a band. Wringer is three dudes. Wringer plays the type of punk rock you can sing along to. Wringer is all about harmonies and major chords. Wringer knows what it's like to be weird. Wringer knows what it's like to be sad and pissed off and confused and naive. Wringer also knows what it's like to be stoked on life and music and friends and shit. Wringer doesn't know what it's like to be old and jaded. Wringer wants to make your basement a war zone but instead of bombs and bullets and blood and guts it's gonna be guitars and drums and pizza and nacho cheese.

THE SWAN KING - listen
The Swan King, from Chicago, have a pummeling, straight-ahead approach to the Georgia sound of bands like Mastodon or Baroness.
OXBLOOD - listen
Brand new experimental post-rockers from Chicago. Let's make beautiful music together.
TAKEN BY THE SUN
Taken By The Sun seeks to make the magnitudes of tension and relief in its sound even more prominent through its live show. Typical of post-metal genres, the music is best experienced live, where audience members can not only hear but feel and see the force of this band, and likewise feel and see the relief provided by the band’s digressions away from this forcefulness. The band members especially enjoy performing with their peers in the Chicago metal scene. It is exciting to see so many musicians expending such great effort to explore the possibilities of metal as an art form. It is this effort which defines the Chicago metal scene; it is an effort with which Taken By The Sun are proud to be involved.
ROLLO TOMASI - listen
Dynamic, aggressive post-punk. Rollo Tomasi marries heavy, minimalist guitar riffs ala Helmet and Quicksand with thick, disorted bass lines played over focused, four-on-the-floor drumming. Their tightly constructed songs are upbeat but deliberately side-step cliche melodies in favor of something much more powerful... a dense wall of sound that lures you in by force.

DOPE BODY
Dope Body are one of the only underground bands in existence brave enough to claim Rage Against the Machine as a formative influence. The Baltimore-based noise-punk quartet embraces the signature sounds of the alternative nation, but uses pedals, loops, and off-kilter rhythms to pummel its teenage heroes into blurry abstraction. Borrowing from punk-funk and nu-metal as much as spazz-core and pigfuck, the group plays Dr. Moreau with a decade's worth of MTV buzz clips.
MEAT WAVE
Three-piece Chicago punk band. Please, watch what you say around these guys, for fans of hot snakes, abba, les savy fav, detachment kit, shellac and Katy Perry.
GERONIMO!

TOMBS - listen
TOMBS tap into the infinite well of emotion and expression on their astounding new full-length Path of Totality. Recorded by John Congleton (Baroness, Explosions in the Sky), Path of Totality is a massive step forward in songwriting and scope for the trio. Path of Totality finds TOMBS achieving what their previous recordings had always hinted at – an ultimately heavy and nuanced fusion of their disparate influences. “Bloodletters” and “Constellations” see the band flex its prodigious muscle; “Vermillion” and “Cold Dark Eyes” wrap arms of blackened misery around the listener, while the profound sadness of “Silent World” and “Passageways” further explores the trio’s UK post-punk influences. With Path of Totality, TOMBS has come into their own as one of the finest heavy bands in the world.
VATTNET VISKAR (Century Media Records)
Of late, black metal in the United States-- however excellent it might have been-- has often hinged on headlines and talking points. But Vattnet Viskar has no manifesto with which to proselytize, no extreme ideology or infamy over which to bicker, and no yarn about life on the ol' Cascadian farm with which to allure. Sure, to an extent, they're vegan environmentalists from Plaistow, New Hampshire, a town so seemingly quaint that its official history includes a proud section about something called "The Deodorized Order of the Skunk" and another about how local Girl Scouts have "helped shape the moral and civic sensibilities of Plaistow girls for many decades." Aside from some surprisingly wide-eyed lyrics that explore general themes of existential nihilism and a desire to tear down antiquated systems and build anew, none of those concerns really become a factor here. Vattnet Viskar is simply a strong start from a band that has tapped into the current transmogrification of black metal and proclaimed-- quickly, restlessly, and enthusiastically-- that it has something to say about the process.

College brought them to Chicago, IL where they now live. Multiple versions of the live band have come and gone. One band in Portland was made up of their 14-year-old brother, their 50-year-old father and their half-Japanese friend. Another band in Chicago was comprised of their college housemates and friends.
TWIN (ex The Need, King Cobra) - listen
Total euphoric stop/start freekmetal hypnotix for the neo underpunx caste. Oof! The future is now & TWIN (nee The King Cobra) is already beyond...who's gonna come up with a name for this stuff? Ray & Ghost cough up a dense, messy spew of prog-punk, post-wave, & massive, downtuned sludgy psych, while a nimbus of baroque avant-metal gods hurl sweet poison riffs from above. Truly blissed-out! But how can two people make so much racket? Incredibly, TWIN's live assault is even wilder--heaving drums, hall-of-mirrors guitar, dueling vocals shrieked then purred then howled amid mystic bleeps & blurps, a fast-forward VR epic come to life: spastic then dirgelike, hushed then pounding, fevered, staggered, then suddenly gloriously air-punchingly triumphant. Radical!

AUSTIN LUCAS
Raised in the backwoods country of Monroe County, Indiana, Austin Lucas was born into a folk and bluegrass lineage. His father, Bob Lucas, is an accomplished musician and performer in his own right, having earned songwriting credits on two of Allison Krauss’ albums. Learning to harmonize before learning to read, Lucas honed his vocal control as a member of the nationally-acclaimed Indiana University Children’s Choir. In a narrative as well-worn as it is true, Lucas rebelled against his upbringing, leaving his Americana roots for the catharsis of punk rock. After the better part of a decade spent criss-crossing the globe with a series of bands in broken-down vans, Lucas hit a musical glass-ceiling, eventually finding respite for his ringing ears in the delicacy of traditional songcraft.
NORTHCOTE
Matt Goud (aka Northcote) may take you by surprise when he steps up to the mic. Though the soft-spoken Goud is known by friends and family as a gentle giant, he infuses his original songs with a uniquely powerful and confident voice. Born and raised in small-town Saskatchewan, his early exposure to music was a mix of traditional country on AM radio and the hymns he learned at his childhood church. However, it wasn't until he discovered punk and hardcore music that he realized music’s healing and therapeutic power. Over the past 8 years, few young musicians in Canada have put on as many miles as Goud who toured for years as a member of a post-hardcore band and has more recently transitioned into life on the road as a singer/songwriter with accompaniment by an ever-rotating slew of guests and friend musicians.
JAYKE ORVIS - listen
A founding member of The .357 String Band and current member of the Goddamn Gallows, Jayke Orvis is ahead of his time even though he plays timeless music. The songs on his solo effort “It’s All Been Said” are articles of the heart, exposing Orvis as a fragile, troubled soul. His depictions of love are raw and blue, the pages of his life littered throughout this album.
CALEB CAUDLE - listen
Caleb Caudle’s last album, Tobacco Town brought him national exposure upon its release in 2012. With Blurt Magazine noting “…jaw-droppingly fine songs steeped in classic Earle, Clark, McMurtry and Van Zandt,” Caudle decided to take his Americana-rich songs out on the road. In just a year, Caudle has played over 300 shows in 30 plus states, performed on the web-radio sensation Daytrotter, and even found time to pack up all of his belongings to make the move from North Carolina to New Orleans.
